The Case 1 intro :Marvelous Designer to CC3

As a beginning, I use my Indian friend’s Avatar to explain the details of content development.

As everyone knows, Marvelous Designer is a very popular 3D clothing modeling software in the world. It is easy to operate and has a multi-language interface.

This example is provided by my friend Tarun and his sister Himani,

Her sister Himani is very good at using Marvelous Designer to draw traditional Indian costumes.

And this article focuses on the problems encountered,

The exported clothes do not carry UV information, which makes it difficult to import into iClone to make soft cloth.

In conjunction with this teaching UV disassembly, I deliberately avoided the UV packaging part of Marvelous Designer.

It also shows that those details should be paid attention to in iClone.

In this series, I will separate some sections, examine the cloth mesh, checking UV, cut UV, texturing in Substance Painter, and finally import the cloth back to character creator 3.

So the workflow should be: 

  • Export cloth fbx from Marvelous Designer.
  • Import to 3D modeling software(I will use maya)
  • Checking the cloth and deleting extra faces and merging vertices.
  • Retopology if cloth mesh is mass in Zbrush.
  • Using any software can unwarp cloth mesh get UV layout.

And the next section will talk about importing cloth mesh into substance painter to texture and enhance appearance basic on PBR material.
